Learner Lifecycle & Interoperability
A open discussion about Learner Lifecycles across the pK20W+ domains. We will look at how standards work together and facilitate the student centric learning journey.
9:15am-10:00am
What do we all mean when we say PK20W+?
At the highest level we all understand that we are talking about individuals from the time they are students in early childhood programs, through elementary, secondary, post secondary and into the workforce and beyond. What does it mean from a systems and data perspective? All Of us come to this concept from different places in the learner lifecycle with different perspectives, experiences and expectations about students and student data. This discussion will present these varying viewpoints and help us all gain better perspectives on what a truly interoperable PK20W+ learner lifecycle might look like and what some of the obstacles may be.

Student Data Privacy Across pK20W+ and ‘The Practitioner’s Perspective’
Increased Interoperability without embedded privacy = increased risk. How do student data privacy obligations follow the students from PK through K12, into post secondary and into the workforce. Do these obligations change along the way? What considerations should we be aware of as we being to build PK20W data systems for data to follow these students? Come hear from a panel of experts the current obligations and barriers we need to be mindful of moving forward.
Plus, in an increasingly digital educational landscape, where technology plays a pivotal role in both K-12 and post-secondary education, the responsible and ethical handling of student data has become a paramount concern. This conference session will delve into the multifaceted challenges, best practices, and emerging trends surrounding student data privacy in both K-12 and post-secondary education settings. Attendees will gain valuable insights from experts in the field, ensuring that they are well-equipped to navigate the complex intersection of education, technology, and data privacy.

The State of Data Standards
Data Standards United (DSU), a partnership among standards bodies and standards stakeholders, looks to support major initiatives including the work and efforts of the T3 Innovation Network. PESC, PESC members and organizations in DSU, are engaged and participating in T3. DSU also looks to support additional major initiatives including shared infrastructure, the JSON-LD Transcript development, and the Resume Standard development, among others.
2:00pm-3:00pm
Diversity, Equity & Inclusion
Diversity, Equity and Inclusion is emerging as a cornerstone value across all levels of education. Panellists will discuss why DEI is important, and what we all can do and need to do to improve. Panellists respond to questions from the moderator and attendees, including: Have you noticed the need to expand your vocabulary around gender identity or EDI/DEI? Are there differences between K-12 and post-secondary? How are organizations preparing and/or responding to customer/student/learner needs? Is the right data being collected or is data being collected without an end purpose in mind? Is the right data being passed along?
Workforce outcomes & Skills-based hiring
In the rapidly evolving landscape of education, the alignment between learning outcomes and workforce needs has become paramount. This conference session delves into the transformative potential of data management in shaping education strategies that bridge the gap between post-secondary and K-12 education and the demands of the job market. Attendees will gain insights into harnessing data-driven approaches to enhance skills-based hiring practices, ensuring that educational institutions prepare students for successful careers in a dynamic world.

Unleashing the Potential: Exploring the Impact of AI and Large Language Models on Education
This session aims to delve into the revolutionary role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Large Language Models (LLMs) in shaping the future of education. As advancements in AI continue to accelerate, educators and researchers must recognize the profound impact these technologies have on learning, teaching methodologies, and overall educational systems. The session will explore the opportunities, challenges, and best practices in integrating AI and LLMs in educational settings.
Microcredentials for Student Mobility & Data Portability
In today’s rapidly evolving educational landscape, the concept of micro-credentials has emerged as a transformative force, offering new avenues for both post-secondary and K-12 education. This session will engage participants in a comprehensive exploration of micro-credentials, examining their benefits, challenges, and implications for post-secondary and K-12 institutions, with a focus on student mobility and data portability.

Improving EdTech Research: A Legal, Ethical, and Technical Framework for inclusive R&D
Educational technology is advancing rapidly, yet the lack of robust research poses a challenge. Join us in exploring a framework that bridges the gap between marketing claims and documented proof, restoring trust in the EdTech ecosystem. Discover how aligning technical, ethical, legal, and scientific goals, along with an inclusive research and development model, can transform the landscape. Learn about the critical role of data interoperability and clear privacy agreements, essential elements in shaping ethical and inclusive research and development.
IEEE 1484.2 Learning and Employment Record (LER) Standards
Glimpse into the future of standardized skills representation with a preview of the soon-to-be-published IEEE global standard that will enable people’s skills become machine-readable data that can be held and controlled from a digital wallet app and exchanged like currency for learning and employment opportunities on the open Internet the way goods and services are exchanged today. This “meta standard” integrates 1EdTech CASE, CLR, and Open Badge with W3C Verifiable Credentials and sets a foundation for more integrated data standards from CEDS to A4L, Ed-Fi, PESC, and HR Open.
